Description

TWO MASSACHUSETTS HUNTING-RELATED JOURNALS Early 20th Century
Handwritten journal and ledger recording the hunting, fishing and leisure activities of the John's Pond Club in Mashpee, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod. The first journal, which begins in 1903 and ends in 1909, is a more detailed and thorough recording, with entries in several different club members' handwriting.
The second journal begins in 1913 and ends in 1953. Both volumes quarto with calf and morocco bindings.
John's Pond Club, on the shores of John's Pond in Mashpee, was run by Edmond Wright of Boston. In his 1929 book, Shooting Stands of Eastern Massachusetts,Dr. John C. Phillips described the club as a large blind with 105 live geese, seventy-five live ducks and 100 blocks (decoys).
