Description

SCRIMSHAW WHALE'S TOOTH American, 19th Century
Obverse depicts an American eagle standing with American flags on a Union shield perched on a cliff. Below the cliff is a village and harbor with sailing ships. Reverse depicts a bust-length portrait of a young woman in Victorian dress. Length 4.75.
Note: Tooth has five gouges on portrait side, probably from a shark bite while whale was being cut in."
