Description

PAIR OF FRAMED PORTRAITS: THOMAS BADGER (American, 1792-1868). Depict a man in black jacket, white shirt and stock, and a woman in a gray dress with lace collar and center cameo. Inscribed on reverse of gentleman's portrait, James. W. Leatherby/Born Dec 25, 1797. Painted March 1856. by Thomas Badger". Woman's portrait unmarked. Some minor restoration. Oils on canvas, 30.75" x 25"."

Condition

Gilt frames with touch up and losses to gesso. She is not relined and is crazed. Varnish wash masks the extent of the restoration under blacklight, though there is evidence of some small areas of inpaint to the background. He has been relined, with a masking varnish over him as well with some evidence of inpaint repair n and around his head.
