WHALE OIL MERCHANT'S WOODEN LIFT-TOP DOCUMENT BOX 19th Century
Box contains approx. forty documents relating to the purchase and sale of sperm whale oil, crude oil, spermaceti, etc., with several whaleships mentioned by name. Many documents addressed to George R. Phillips of New Bedford, Massachusetts, and several are typed on Grinnell, Minturn & Co. letterhead. Most dated from the 1880s. Box in mahogany with diamond and heart-form inlay to top and a diamond-form escutcheon at front. Interior with three compartments at right, and a single covered compartment at left. Box height 3.5. Width 15". Depth 11". Not available for international, California or New York delivery."
