Description

NAPOLEONIC PRISONER-OF-WAR MINIATURE SLANT-LID DESK Early 19th Century
Carved and engraved polychrome bone panels over wood. Slant lid opens to reveal three drawers. Case with two half drawers over a full-width drawer and turned feet. Lid with two reticulated carved panels in foliate, bird and hare design. Two half drawers with relief-carved panels depicting a hound chasing a hare. Lower drawer with a reticulated panel depicting ancient ruins at right and a hound chasing a hare in center. Reticulated side panels with decoration of a woman and a dog as well as foliate and bird designs. Other surfaces with extensive polychrome geometric engravings. Some surface panels dyed green. Height 8.25. Width 7". Depth 4.75".
