Description

TIFFANY SILVER PENDANT FROM THE YACHT AZTEC
Engraved on one side E.B.P. July 24, 1906." below raised decoration of two crossed burgees and "Aztec". Other side with a stylized sun encircled by a band of tiny Aztec-style emblems. A stylized serpent is wrapped around the circumference of the pendant and creates small loops at top, bottom, right and left. Marked "Tiffany & Co." Diameter 2.13".
The steam-powered yacht Aztec was one of the largest and most luxurious pleasure vessels built in America at the time it launched in 1902. She was owned by industrialist Albert C. Burrage of Boston but was loaned to the U.S. Navy during World War I. As was customary at the time, this pendant was probably a souvenir for guests on-board the yacht."
