French, 1821-1908

The Egyptian Girl". Signed lower right "Ch Lavalle". Typewritten note verso states the title and notes that the painting was acquired at "The Johnston Sale" in 1876. John Taylor Johnston was a founder of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and was elected its first President in 1870. An 1876 sale of his collection took place in New York City. Remnants of a Boston Art Club label are also visible.
Provenance: Private Collection, Cape Cod.
Oil on canvas, 17.5" x 11.5". Framed 30" x 24"."

Condition

Old reline. Poorly restored tears to lower third with significant restoration. Period and possibly original frame as is.
