CARVED AND PAINTED WOODEN EAGLE BY WILLIAM A. LIBBEY 20th Century
Of coastal Maine. Well-executed carving with exceptional feather detail. Red, white and blue E. Pluribus Unum" banner in beak. Shield held in talons. Curled American flag tucked below left wing. Signed on reverse "W.A. Libbey". Height 17.75". Width 72.5".
Note: William A. Libbey of Rockland, Maine, learned wood carving from his father, master carver Peter Libbey. William's production is limited to the winter when he takes a break from his primary career as a Maine lobsterman.
