Description

PLANTATION CHAIR 19th Century
In mahogany and walnut with stretched canvas back and seat. Extended arms made to suspend a piece of canvas to create a foot rest. This style of chair was used by equestrians to rest upon after a ride. Back height 34. Seat height 17". Length 72"."

Condition

Originally catalogued as 20th Century, but is in fact a 19th Century with newer canvas seat. Front legs are re-glued at mortise joints, to seat and arm supports. Canvas shows little staining. Otherwise good condition. Came from a private Cape Cod collection. Footrest missing, as noted, as well as head pillow.
