Description

PAIR OF POLYCHROME SCRIMSHAW WHALE'S TEETH Second Quarter of the 19th Century
Both with extensive details. One depicts an American eagle clutching a Union Liberty" banner in its beak. A globe, two sailing ships and two crossed flags below eagle. Reverse with a branch of berries over a vase of flowers atop a table. Other tooth with an American eagle clutching an "America & Freedom" banner in its beak. Below the eagle Neptune stands on a seashell and holds a banner inscribed "The God of the - Sea is the Sailors friend". Neptune flanked by American and French flags. Reverse depicts a ship flying an American flag coming into an American port. Lengths 6.25".
