Description

FRAMED ROYAL ARCH MASON APRON
In white satin with pink satin border and gold trim and fringe. Muslin floral-patterned backing. Flap decorated with a triangle within a sun. Body with central arch flanked by a flaming urn on left and a foliate branch and a grid of multicolored squares on right. Grid resembles a traditional breastplate. Arch suspends red and purple drapes and encloses a trowel, hammer, staff and altar. Decoration executed with appliqués and tiny sequins. Placard affixed to back of apron marked in pencil With the [illegible] and fra[illegible] regards of your frater Masonic Apron [illegible] 1866" and printed "Mr. D.N. Balme[?]." Placard mounted within frame marked "Presented By T. Wister[?] Sikes To Wat'n Chapter #59 Nov. 23, 1905". Apron approx. 16.75" x 17.5". Frame 31.75" x 30.25"."

Condition

Apron tacked to frame's backing with pushpins, but is coming loose. Apron with stains and some tears, particularly at flap and at bottom of left column of arch. Frame doesn't have glass.
