Description

PAINTED SEA CHEST American, Mid-19th Century
In pine under old, possibly original, deep red paint. Slightly canted front. Top lifts open to reveal a simple fitted interior; one slide divider missing. Exceptional foliate-carved beckets with central panels of a relief-carved rope and anchor design on one ide and a stylized star on the other. Sailor ropework handles. Height 18. Width 43.75". Depth 18"."

Condition

Top with several elongated chips at right side. Some wear to finish and light roughness to edges. Carving at beckets differ, as noted in updated description. Old finish, not original. No til, divider missing. Replaced old hinges. Lock present. Leather covers on ropes worn.
