FOLD-OUT WRITING DESK BELONGING TO HAROLD R. BUTMAN English, Mid-19th Century
Made by W.H. Tooke, Liverpool. In rosewood veneer. Plaque affixed to top marked with owner's name and 1860". Top opens to reveal fitted compartments for inkwell, mother-of-pearl letter opener and writing implements, etc. Writing slant opens to reveal compartment containing more miscellany including a silver card case dated 1860 and monogrammed "HMB", two silver match safes, silk- and leather-bound notebooks, handwritten notes, postcards and calling cards. Desk height 4". Width 14". Depth 10".
