Description

RARE WOOD ENGRAVING THE TAKING OF THE CITY OF WASHINGTON IN AMERICA" London, 1814
Depicts a view from the Potomac River while the city is under attack by British forces led by Major General Ross during the War of 1812. Lower margin with key referencing areas of the engraving. A copy exists in the Library of Congress but we were unable to find other examples on the market.

Not examined out of frame. Toned. Wear and losses around edges and a diagonal dogeared loss at lower left. Laid down. 17.75 x 22". Framed, 22.5" x 27.5"."
