EARLY AMERICAN IMPRINT ON RELIGION 1714
An Exhortation to All: To Use Utmost Endeavours to obtain a Visit of the God of Hosts, for the Preservation of Religion, and the Church, upon Earth. In a Sermon Preached before His Excellency the Governour, the Honourable Council and Representatives of the Province of the Massachusetts-Bay in N.E. on May 26, 1714, being the Anniversary Day of the Election of Councellors of the said Province" by Samuel Danforth, Pastor of the church in Tanton[sic]. (Boston: B. Green, sold by Samuel Gerrish, 1714.) Inscribed on inside cover "Joseph Baxter His Book. Jan 7th 1714/15" and with two other owner signatures. Joseph Baxter (1676-1745) was a minister at Medfield's First Parish Church. Samuel Danforth (16261674) was a Puritan minister, poet, astronomer and a pastor of The First Church in Roxbury. 32mo. Wraps. Wear consistent with age, including chipping, staining and foxing, but text is entirely legible."
