Description

BIOGRAPHY OF FRANKLIN PIERCE Election of 1852
Two copies of Life of Franklin Pierce by Nathaniel Hawthorne. (Boston: Ticknor, Reed, and Fields, 1852), including a scarce copy in its original paper wraps with price of 37 1/2 cents on front cover. Other in impressed brown boards. Both 12mo. Both with engraved frontispiece portrait of Pierce protected by tissue guards. Paperback copy shows very little wear and is housed in a contemporary custom slipcase.
Noted American author Nathaniel Hawthorne was Pierce's classmate at Bowdoin and a lifelong friend. He wrote this glowing biography in support of Pierce's campaign for President in 1852.

Condition

Paperback copy with oval leather label for William Bunker on upper corner of copyright page, which has discolored all pages through p. 8. Some offsetting of frontispiece portrait on tissue guard and title page. Hardcover with white grime on cover. Some loss of spine at crown. Corners very lightly bumped.
