MAINE BROADSIDE SPIRIT OF '40" 1840
Pertains to the Presidential election of 1840 and discusses a National Bank, the national debt, Hamilton, Jefferson and Jackson, and other issues of the campaign with an anti-Federalist viewpoint. "At a crisis of so great importance to the Republican Party of the Nation, a vigorous and united effort is demanded of the Democracy in Maine." Dated Portland, May 1840. Printed by the Eastern Argus office and distributed on a subscription basis each week leading up to the election. Six ink signatures below text followed by twenty-one names written in pencil in the same hand. 15.5" x 9.5"."
