MASSACHUSETTS CONGRESSIONAL CAMPAIGN BROADSIDE WITH GRAPHIC INTEREST Circa 1844
To the Electors of the Third District. ...". Supports Amos Abbott of Andover for Congress. Claims "Fellow-citizens! Our country is in danger!". Text surrounds an image of two overflowing cornucopias flanking an eagle with flag and banner. Greek key border with floral rosettes at each corner. Bold typography. 22.5" x 14.5" sight. Matted and shrink-wrapped 29" x 20.25".
Amos Abbott (1786-1868), who served in Congress from 1843 to 1849, was a founder of the Boston & Portland Railway, later called the Boston & Maine Railroad, and served as its director from 1834 to 1841. He was also a member of the Massachusetts state legislature as a representative and senator."
