Description

TWELVE 18TH AND 19TH CENTURY HANDWRITTEN LETTERS AND DOCUMENTS 1778-1899
Together with an unsigned 1894 typewritten letter on U.S. House of Representatives letterhead, and a small account book with handwritten notations dated 1845 and 1846. Handwritten items include a 1783 letter signed by Rhode Island Assembly Speaker William Bradford, a 1778 message to a quartermaster, a 1786 election tally from Hampstead, an 1844 letter signed by N.Y. Congressman Lemuel Stetson about a nomination to the Supreme Court, an 1856 letter signed by John A. Hillery urging the recipient to vote for Millard Fillmore, an 1861 anti-Lincoln letter signed by Minnesota politician Thomas Cowan, an 1892 letter on Central Vermont Railroad letterhead and an 1899 letter on A.E. Worden company letterhead. Other items dated 1800, 1855, 1877 and 1886. Most discuss the political issues of the day while some are more personal.

Condition

Wear commensurate with age, including toning, foxing, staining, creases, chipping, etc. Many exhibit tears along fold lines. One with more significant damage on last page.
