Description

SCRIMSHAW WHALE'S TOOTH Mid-19th Century
Obverse with a three-quarter-length portrait of a prim lady wearing a bonnet and a striped dress. Reverse with rollicking scene of sailors drinking while seated around a punch bowl. Some are holding bottles and others are ladling drinks from the bowl. The ground around them is littered with bottles, swords and guns, and tall grasses are seen behind the group of revelers. Image inspired from Captain Roberts' Crew carousing at Old Calabar River" from The Pirates Own Book (1837). Length 6". Includes a lucite stand."

Condition

Shallow chip on obverse near edge. Two approx. 1 cracks on reverse extending from base. Additional age lines/ cracks near tip of reverse.
