POLYCHROME SCRIMSHAW WHALE'S TOOTH ATTRIBUTED TO THE NAVAL MONUMENT ENGRAVER First Half of the 19th Century
Depicts a naval engagement between six American and English ships, three of which are firing guns. Billowing smoke surrounds the two ships in the foreground, which are flying long red pennants from their central masts and their nation's ensign off the stern. Based on the engraving The President engaging the Endymion, while pursued by the British Squadron" by Abel Bowen after Michel Felice Corne, seen in Bowen's Naval Monument. Length 8".
