US LIGHTHOUSE ESTABLISHMENT SEXTANT Early 20th Century
Interior of case with a glued paper label for T.S. & J.D. Negus Chronometers and Nautical Instruments". Etched on scale "A. Hurlimann Paris 1187". According to the Smithsonian, "A. Hurlimann was a mathematical instrument maker in Paris who took over Lorieux's shop in the early 1890s and was succeeded by Ponthus & Therrode a few years later". The Smithsonian has a Hurlimann sextant in its permanent collection (PH*309660). In a fitted mahogany case. Case height 4.25". Width 9.25". Depth 8.5"."
