Description

AARON FOLGER
Nantucket, Massachusetts, 19th Century

A wonderful miniature three-wheeled toy pull cart under original paint. Signed in pencil on underside Aaron Folger Nantucket 1853". Reinforced box design with removable rear panel is typical of local carts of the day used by fishermen in Sconset. Aaron Folger (1776-1858) was a cooper who worked for the ill-fated whaleship Essex in 1819. In the 1840's he was the keeper of the Great Point Light and in 1842 patented an improvement in lighthouse lamp design.
