Description

WHALEBONE AND WHALE IVORY SWIFT 19th Century
Turned whale ivory yarn cup and adjustment collars. Whalebone shaft, staves, and incised barrel-form clamp and adjustment screw. Shaft with carved rope design and a shell or exotic wood band at base. Cage diameter is adjusted by inserting a pin through one of six pierced holes along the length of the shaft (pin missing). Height 21.5. Case diameter approx. 24". Includes a wooden stand. Height including stand 25.5"."

Condition

Staves need to be retied, but none appear broken. Age lines on clamp. Yarn cup is wobbly and possibly a replacement. Pin missing, as noted.
