Description

WHALEBONE AND WHALE IVORY SWIFT 19th Century
Together with an ivory multi-compartment needle case with red and blue incised banding. Swift with turned whale ivory yarn cup, adjustment collars and clamp, all with extensive red and blue incised banding. Two whale ivory components at the lower end of shaft, one shaped like a bowl and the other like a disk, spin freely on the shaft but have an unknown purpose and are possibly just decorative. Whalebone shaft with matching red and blue banding. Nicely waisted cage with whalebone staves. Metal adjustment screws and pins. Swift height 22.25. Cage diameter approx. 17.5". Needle case length 5.75"."

Condition

Whale ivory with some pearling as well as age lines/cracks. Some loss of blue and red coloring.
