SAILOR-MADE MARQUETRY JEWELRY BOX 19th Century
Hinged lid with central blossom within a rectangular scallop-bordered cartouche surrounded by geometric and helix bands. Front and back with twin blossom designs in diamond-shaped cartouches, and sides with single design. Scalloped and geometric borders on all four faces. Interior lined in brown and green velvet and green floral-patterned ribbon. Contains a fitted tray that lifts out to reveal an open compartment. Interior of lid with central colored ink drawing of a harpooned sperm whale. Underside of box lined with an 1886 issue of the New Bedford newspaper Whalemen's Shipping List. Height 4.5. Width 9". Depth 7"."

Condition

Generally well preserved. Minor scratch on lid. Wear to fabric commensurate with age.
