Description

AETNA SLAVE INSURANCE POLICY Dated January 18, 1853
Printed document, accomplished by hand. From the life department of the Lexington, Kentucky agency. William H. Brand of Fayette County Kentucky purchased a $600 life insurance policy for three slaves for a term of twelve months. Sheet 13.5 x 8.25".
Note: The Kentucky Historical Society, repository for the William H. Brand Papers, notes that Brand was a lawyer and businessman from Lexington, Kentucky, and later Columbia, Missouri."

Condition

Document is sealed in a protective sleeve and has not been examined out of sleeve. There appear to be three names hand-written on the verso, which is the space indicated for listing slave names. Minor foxing along edges.
