Description

NAPOLEONIC PRISONER-OF-WAR BONE MODEL OF A 64-GUN SHIP French/English, Early 19th Century
Hull planked in bone, with contrasting bands, probably baleen, between the gun ports and at the waterline. Cut and pierced gun ports fitted with blackened brass cannons and red covers. Detailed with a caped and helmeted warrior figurehead, carved and pierced galleries, rigging, deck fittings, etc. Displayed on a pair of bone cradles resting on an inlaid wooden base with a bone and wood gallery. Contemporary glass-domed case with stepped mahogany base. Case height 16. Length 16.5". Width 8"."
