NAPOLEONIC PRISONER-OF-WAR BOXWOOD MODEL OF THE BRITISH FIRST RATE 110-GUN HIBERNIA French/English, Early 19th Century
Planked copper-colored hull, with contrasting bands between gun ports and at water line. Cut and pierced gun ports fitted with blackened brass cannons and red covers. Detailed with bone masts, bowsprit and carved figurehead, as well as rigging, deck fittings, etc. Displayed on a pair of wooden cradles resting on a wooden base inlaid with contrasting wood hearts, triangles and a zigzag border. Contemporary glass and wood case mounted with two metal plaques, one marked Hibernia - 1804" and the other "British 1st Rate of 110 Guns Napoleonic Prisoner of War Boxwood Model Hibernia Plymouth 1804". Case height 14". Length 17.25". Width 7.25"."
