NAPOLEONIC PRISONER-OF-WAR BONE MODEL OF THE 54-GUN FRENCH MAN-OF-WAR L'HERCULE French/English, Early 19th Century
Hull planked in bone, with contrasting bands between the gun ports and at the waterline. Cut and pierced gun ports fitted with blackened brass cannons and red covers. Detailed with a sword-wielding female warrior figurehead, carved and pierced galleries, rigging, deck fittings, etc. Displayed on a pair of bone cradles resting on an octagonal polychrome straw work base with bone trim. Contemporary glass-domed case with wooden base. Case height 12. Length 11.5". Width 9".
