Loring Coleman was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1918. He received his training at the Middlesex School in Concord and the Scott Carbee School of Art in Boston. His instructors involved well known Boston artists including Herman Dudley Murphy and Charles Curtis Allen. Coleman went onto a career as the Head of the Art Department at the Middlesex School before retiring to pursue his artistic career.

A talented artist across all mediums Coleman is a arguable best known for his brilliant, life-like watercolors. His works are included in numerous museums. He is a member of the National Academy of Design and the American Watercolor Society.

In 2011, Coleman published his autobiography Living and Painting in a Changing New England- An Autobiography Loring W. Coleman, NA AWS.
