1945 - present

Born in Los Angeles, CA in 1945 and raised and educated in Monterey California. Began his career early as a graphic artist and cartoonist learning much of my skill “on the job ",working freelance for McGraw-Hill

Publishing Co. and later took a position with the firm as staff artist, illustrating educational publications: children’s books, game boards, book covers, and cartoons. Later he took a position as art director for Brooks/Cole Publishing Company, a division of Wadsworth. Settled in New England and continued to work as a freelance artist for many publishingccompanies.

During this period he also worked as a scrimshaw artist executing many examples on commissions. Examples can be seen at the New Bedford Whaling Museum. He devoted much of his spare time to painting as ancavocation. Having lived for a time in Amsterdam, he drew inspiration from the British and Dutch masters of landscape and marine painting. This traditional style continues to influence current work.

Aside from art, his interests include maritime history and in his studio can be found objects of the seafaring past: ship’s figureheads, bells and other artifacts which also inspires his work.

Another facet of his life was his close friendship with Otto Frank, the father of Anne Frank, who became my mentor and spiritual guide. Today, he often shares his experiences by speaking at schools about Anne Frank and the Holocaust.
