David McLeod Martin: Cyclamen in the Village

Cyclamen in the Village

1922 - present

David McLeod Martin was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1922. A career long educator and artist, his work was temporarily interrupted two separate times in the 1940s due to his service in the Royal Air Force in the second World War.

Throughout the ensuing decades Martin led dual careers as an art teacher at the Hamilton Grammar School and a popular and successful landscape and still life painter. He retired from teaching in 1983 and has devoted himself to painting full time since then.

He is regarded my many as one the finest modern paintings and Scotland. This is reflected numerous awards and exhibitions including a major retrospective at The Perth Museum and Art Gallery in 1999. His work is also in the collections of City of Edinburgh Art Collection, The Arts Council of Scotland, The Earl of Moray, and many more.
