American, 1884-1960

California mission with two figures. Signed lower left Wm. A. Patty. Patty was born in Hartford, Connecticut, and by age 16 he was earning his living as a painter. After studying at the NAD and in Paris at Académie Julian, he worked in Brooklyn, New York for many years. Though a resident of Brooklyn, he traveled to Trinidad, Phoenix, Miami and St Petersburg, Florida and painted murals. In 1936 he moved to Laguna Beach, California, where he remained until his death in 1960. Member: Brooklyn WC Club; Brooklyn Society of Artists; AAPL; Laguna Beach AA. Exh: NAD; CGA; PAFA, 1921, 1928.
