Description

FRAMED PAINTING Bucks County origin, 19th Century
Primitive portrait depicting a family in their living room. Mother and father sit at a circular table draped with a red tablecloth, as their daughter stands to their right and a young woman sits at the upright piano. Two girls play on the floral room-size rug near their two black cats, and a girl stands in the doorway and holds a hat. Three paintings hang askew on the walls, one of which depicts a family portrait of an earlier generation. The worman at the table is purportedly a daughter of the Beckers (see lot 594). Oil on canvas, 28 x 36.
Purchased in 1965 from Thurston Thacher Americana and Paintings, Hyde Park NY.
Lot 594 and this painting purportedly stayed together from a Bucks County family, and came to Mr. Thacher this way.

Condition

Inpaint in and around the three paintings on the wall in the background. Small portion of inpaint around the lady at table's right shoulder. Total inpaint approximately 10%. Relined.
