Pair of genre scenes. 1) The Thorne, depicting a mother removing a thorn from a young child while the brother and sister watch. 2) Contrary Winds, depicting four boys on the seashore, one of them crying. Each monogrammed and dated lower right TCB 1869. Written in pencil on reverse Thos.C. Bale, 12 Montpelier Rd....Rd., Peckham.
Oil on board, 6 x 8. Faux bird's-eye maple frames.

Both undamaged.
