Description

FRAMED DOUBLE-SIDED GERMAN MILITARY FLAG Circa 1910
In hand-embroidered and hand-sewn cream-colored silk. Apparently presented by the Kaiser to a Frankfurt regiment. One side with Derein Ehem 80er - Frankfurt a Main" surrounding a central octagonal blue panel with red stitched crown. Reverse with spread-wing eagle in octagonal panel adorned by four crowns. Belonged to the consignor's grandfather, who was an industrial model maker in New York City in the early 1900s. This flag apparently belonged to a German-born captain of one of the ships.
