Description

GEORGE BROWN TIN HOSE REEL 19th Century
In red, yellow, and gold paint with four lions flanking a reel with Liberty shield. Length 10.
Provenance: Private Collection, Brewster, MA. "

Condition

Paint flaking. Missing a bell. Missing one Liberty shield. The paw of the lion on the right has separated from the present Liberty shield. Under ultraviolet light the red paint glows orange. Overall height with reel inserted height 9. Overall height with reel removed: 7" on one side and 7 5/8". on the other. Overall length 10". Width across one set of wheels 4 4/8", across the other set of wheels 51/8". Diameter of reel 5 1/8". Width across reel is 3 3/8" on one side and 3" due to slight bending of one wheel.
The red paint to the reel is not the same red of the tubes on the cart, though we believe the paint to be right.
