Description

UNE BELLE DE PALAO.
A Beauty of Palao. (Untitled.)
Signed in pencil lower left above the Mandarin Duck seal. Old style seal of the carver, Kentaro Maeda, lower left margin. Published: 4 November 1935. Numbered 95/150 in Japanese on the reverse. Slightly toned margins and reverse, otherwise very, very good condition. According to Richard Miles’ book, this is probably a first state as the image appears to be floating and there are four distinct fingerlike shapes at the bottom of her hair.
