(EXPLORATION - ARCTIC) Nine books. 1) le Clerk Egerton, George, (a Sub Lieutenant on board H.M. Ship "Alert" under the command of Albert Markham on the Nares Arctic Expedition of 1875-1876. The expedition was planned to reach the North Pole but only attained 83, 20' and 26" north which was a record for many years. Egerton was in command of a sledge and went on a number of parties (generally not included in his journals, but included in the Parliamentary report. 4 vols. totaling 463 pp with 28 printed notices (largely concerning the theatrical events held on board) and 48 color wash, ink and pencil illustrations, many of them of a humorous nature. Approx. 85,000 words. 2) Nares, Sir G.S., Narrative of a Voyage to the Polar Sea... London, 1878. 2 vols. O. Ex-lib. Worn green cloth. 3) Arctic Expedition 1875-6. Worn gilt blue pictorial cloth. 5) (anonymous), a small manuscript volume apparently containing lecture notes on the Nares expedition.
