Description

(CIRCUS) Route of the Zoological Boston Arena Company, Under The Direction of John J. Hall. Commencing At Boston, May 3rd 1836 and Terminating at Cincinnati, Ohio, December 1st, 1836. Cincinnati, 1836. Printed by James F. Conover. 16mo. Full calf. One woodcut of a jester. Ten pages of listed stops. They certify that the route is over 2,800 miles. They traveled an average of 13 miles a day. A very scarce pamphlet. Not in Howes. Together with 7 account books for various circuses including June & Turner circus, United State Circus, J.M. June & Co., etc. Mostly late 1840s. Included are letters and documents mostly relating to Mr. June and Mr. Aaron Turner, one of the leading sights of the various circuses in America. Some circus imprinted envelopes, a folding broadside from the 1880s(?), a copy of P.T. Barnum's biography in poor condition, and a 2nd ed. of The Circus by Greenwood, etc.
