ANTIQUE AMERICAN OVAL SILVER FOOTED WAITER Circa 1849 Marks of Gale and Hayden, New York City, 1849, and London marks for E.C. Purdee, 1891-1892. London marks stamped on the cast part of border and American marks stamped on underside of border. Chinese Chippendale-style cast border with shell motifs. Beautifully engraved field with two mansions and various wild animals. Feet with acanthus motifs. Length 28". 123.0 troy oz.

It is our opinion that this tray is an American piece. We do not believe this to be a marriage. The engraving looks to be contemporaneous with the tray, and the edge has not been added at a later date. The tray may have been seen by a London silversmith who put his marks on it. We can not see any repairs.
