CIVIL WAR SOLDIER LETTER Dated September 14, 1861
An unsigned partial letter, with vivid and brutally candid remarks about the soldier's experience at the Battle of Bull Run and his medical discharge for battle fatigue. He writes, "I hope I will never see such a site again as I seen at bull's run, to see the poor men the way some of them where [ sic] mangled ... The men whith [ sic] their heads arms and legs off I never did see such a sight."

"Alexandria, Sept. 14th '61

Dear Cosin,

I received your letter the 14th, And was glad to hear from you, I am not well, I have been sick over a week. We have had a hard time of it ever since we left home, I hope I will never see such a site again as I seen at bull's run, to see the poor men the way some of them where [ sic] mangled, There was a poor horse shot by a cannon ball. The ball struck him on one side & knock his entrails all out on the other side, There was another horse standing in the woods eating leaves and some of the men whent (sic) in the wood to get him and he only had three legs. We where [ sic] covering the retreat of our Artilery [ sic] the lutenant [ sic] of the artilery [ sic] was riding along and just as he got in front of me a bullet came along and went rite [ sic] in his forhead [ sic] He did not live hardly a minute. The men whith [ sic] their heads arms and legs off I never did see such a sight. We can see the rebels building batteries right in front of us there is going to be a great battle fought here before long. The two main armys are here beauregards [ sic] and Mc Clellands we are ready to meet them any time they come. I could tell you a great deal about matter here. The Dr is going to give me a discharge I got sick of seeing such slaughter of humane beings I prayed to god that I might get home so I whould [ sic] not see any more of it and I whent [ sic] to the Dr to get some medicin [ sic] and he look at me and said that I was not able to stand the fatigue and that he whould [ sic] give me a discharge to go home. Is not that answering prayers ever since that I have tried to be on the lords side I am not home yet but I ask god to let me go and I believe he will let me go the Dr went to - ".

Unfortunately, it is not possible to provide shipping quotes until the invoice had been paid in full.
In house shipping is offered exclusively though UPS. All items are shipped with UPS insurance (max. $50,000). UPS insurance is billed at $2.70 for the first $100 and at $0.90 per hundred afterwards. Eldred's charges a minium $15 handling fee per package plus actual UPS shipping charges.
COLLECTION OF PURCHASES: Delivery or shipping arrangements must be made within seven (7) days from the close of the auction for all purchases. All items must be removed from Eldred's facilities within fourteen (14) days of the end of the auction. All items remaining after fourteen days may be subject to a $5/per item/per day storage fee. No items will be released unless storage fees are paid in full. Items remaining over thirty (30) days from the close of the auction may be sold for the buyer's account minus auction and storage fees.
