EPHEMERA RELATED TO JOHN F. KENNEDY 1930s-present
Approx. 96 objects from the 1930s to the present, including letters, telegrams, photographs and a pin. Includes materials related to Joe Kennedy Jr.'s performance at the Hasty Pudding Club in drag costume, correspondence between Kennedy and his friend Richard 'Dick' Flood about Kennedy's brother Joe, both before and after Joe's death, and ephemera pertaining to Kennedy's Congressional campaign and the 1961 inauguration, including an unused ticket. Eleven handwritten Kennedy signatures appear, though two from the late 1950s may be by secretarial proxies.

One envelope posted March 27, 1944 from Miami, Florida, contains a handwritten letter addressed to 'Dick Dick,' hand-signed 'Jack' on letterhead from the Navy Department Submarine Chaser Training Center Miami, Florida. Mere months before Joe Jr.'s death, Kennedy writes, 'Haven't heard from brother Joe lately but imagine he is his usual deadly self.'

Another letter posted December 15, 1944, addressed to Flood at his naval air station in San Francisco, is written on Ritz-Carlton, Boston letterhead, and has typos and hand-drawn corrections. Addressed to 'Dick Dick' and hand-signed by 'Jack,' Kennedy presses Dick about his missing contribution to the commemorative book on Joe. He writes, 'I know it is a pain in [] your big fat arse to have to do it again but as you knew Joe so well I want to get yours in it.' He writes in a postscript, 'There is a report a round that Big Dick Harlow is going to be collecting goose eggs at Harvard next Fall. If true, I'm counting on indignant letters from Oahu the frist time Harvard loses demanding a new coach - this should be [] sometime in late Sept. Getting that bastard is no. I on my post-war plans.' Contains typed mistakes and some hand-drawn corrections.
