BONE MODEL OF AN AMERICAN TWENTY-FOUR GUN SLOOP OF WAR American, Circa 1820

The hull built up from the solid and planked in whale bone with brass trunnels, and a baleen waist, the head rails supporting the stem with residual blue polychrome, anchors, the stern with rudder and polychrome decorated transom. The deck detailed with bow-sprit ladder, pin rails and fife rails, open waist with polychrome swag decoration, stove pipe, capstan, skylight, companionway, ship's whell and other details. Pierced and fitted with 22 cannons, each mounted on a carriage. Rigged with a bow-sprit and three masts, standing and running riggingflags and other details. Displayed on a pair of bone pedestals on a velvet covered block of wood with a name plaque "America". 8.25" x 11 x 4.5", model on base.
