SCRIMSHAW WHALE'S TOOTH "SPERM WHALING"

Richly inked compilation of popular whaling era motifs. Titled in an openface serifed font on obverse above a harpoon, a lance and a spade. A whaling scene with two ships, both flying "H" house flags, a surfaced sperm whale, a stoved boat and two additional whaleboats wraps around the circumference of the base. Obverse also with a basket of flowers and a spread-wing Liberty eagle. Reverse with a foliate garland framing a patriotic montage of cannons, an American flag, a Liberty shield, a Phrygian cap, a sword, bayonet, etc.
Length 5.75".
Condition: Base cut flag, with a small chip at edge, small age lines and two age cracks, both approx. 1.5", one extending into the obverse and the other into the reverse. Old shallow chip at tip.
