Why Sell with Eldred's?

Whether you have just one item to sell or a whole house to liquidate, we are here to help.

With more than 70 years of auction experience, Eldred’s offers personalized, expert service, competitive rates, prompt payment and proven results.

Eldred’s conducts specialized auctions throughout the year including Americana, Marine Art, American and European Fine and Decorative Arts, Asian Art, Oriental Rugs, Decoys and Sporting Art, and much more. Our auctions are attended by collectors from across the United States and around the globe.

Experience

Eldred’s, New England’s oldest auction house, has been owned and operated by three generations of the Eldred family, conducting auctions at the same location in East Dennis, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod’s historic Route 6A since 1947.

Our specialists have a combined 300 years worth of experience in auctions and valuating property. Each is considered a leading expert in their field of specialty, but they all possess extensive knowledge in all areas of fine and decorative arts. We assure you, no small attic treasures will go unnoticed.

Service

From the moment of consignment, we pride ourselves on personalized, expert service. Our friendly staff is always available to help at any step along the auction process.

We promote our sales vigorously through print and electronic media, online and print catalogs, an extensive email network, and targeted direct marketing. Your property will also be displayed in our galleries prior to the auction, a unique opportunity for bidders to view material in a tasteful, artfully arranged setting.

Proven Results

Throughout the years we’ve handled many impressive consignments and have routinely broken records for the highest prices ever realized in a variety of consignment areas, including the world-record price for scrimshaw, Ralph Cahoon paintings, Cape Cod art and more.

Competitive Rates and Prompt Payment

Our competitive commission rates are free from hidden fees. Eldred’s charges a commission based on a percentage of the hammer price for each lot sold. This commission and a small insurance fee typically cover all auction-related services including transportation, storage, photography, cataloging and sale preparation. Exact terms will be provided by your specialist, and they will be clearly communicated to you in your consignment contract.

After each auction you will be notified of the results. Auction proceeds (the hammer price less commission and fees) are mailed to consignors 30 days after the auction, provided we are in receipt of payment from the buyer.

The Selling Process

Just Six Easy Steps...

  1. Evaluation of property: One of our specialists will work with you to determine which of your items are appropriate for our auctions and will provide auction estimates.
  2. Sign a consignment contract: Your contract will clearly communicate the commission terms of your consignment. All contracts include a commission and an insurance fee, calculated at 1.5% of the low estimate.
  3. Transport: We will provide you with instructions on delivering your items to us, or we may be able to arrange pick-up.
  4. Processing Your Consignment: Once we are in possession of your items, we will inventory them into the most appropriate upcoming auction, photograph them for our website, catalogs and other marketing materials, and securely store them until the auction.
  5. Auction & Exhibit: Your item will be on display at our auction gallery in the days leading up to the auction, and will be posted on a variety of online platforms, ensuring optimum exposure. Buyers from around the world can bid at Eldred’s in a multitude of ways: live in the audience, by telephone or absentee bid, or online.
  6. Payment: Settlement statements and a check for auction proceeds are sent 30 days after the auction, provided we are in receipt of the buyer’s payment. Proceeds are the hammer price of each lot, less commission and insurance charges.
