AARON WILLARD, JR. ROXBURY TALL-CASE CLOCK

Wonderful diminutive size, superbly proportioned, and one of only three known examples to bear Aaron Willard, Jr.'s personal label. Figured mahogany case with choice inlay. Arched molded bonnet with pierced scrolled fretwork and three fluted plinths, each supporting a brass ball and spire finial. Tombstone dial door with brass surround. Bonnet fronted by full columns with brass caps and brass stop-fluting. Waisted trunk with matching quarter columns. Molded pendulum door with line inlay and a cross-banded border surrounding a vibrantly figured mahogany panel. Similarly inlaid base with molded apron and flared ogee feet. Painted metal face with gilt piping, identifying it as a "bride's model", and gilt floral designs at the corners. Roman numeral hour dial, Arabic numeral minutes register and subsidiary seconds dial. Moon phase disk in lunette. Brass time and strike eight-day movement retains original pendulum bob and weights. Signed on face "Aaron Willard Junr" and marked "Boston".
Total height 88". Width 20". Depth 10".
Condition: Old refinish. Several spots of veneer reglue to case. Front right foot restored (bottom 1/2" is replaced). Front left foot has a reglue. One small spot of lifting veneer on the base. Globe decoration on dial is worn. Finials are period but may not be original. Fretwork with a couple spots of reglue. UV light reveals dial has some small spots of stabilized paint crazing. Not guaranteed to be running, but all parts appear to be present.
