ANTONIO NICOLO GASPARO JACOBSEN
New York/New Jersey/Denmark, 1850-1921

The Bermuda, a two-masted black-hulled steam-sail vessel. Most of her sails are raised and she is flying the American flag from the foremast, her house flag from the rear mast and the Canadian flag off her stern. Water with wonderful translucence at the peak of the waves. Signed, dated and inscribed lower right in red "Antonio Jacobsen NY 1877 257 8 Ave". An excellent example of Jacobsen's early period, with the sky colors typical of his work from this time.

Illustrated: Antonio Jacobsen - The Checklist compiled by Harold S. Sniffen (Newport News, Virginia: The Mariners' Museum, 1984), p.44.
Flying the Colors: The Unseen Treasures of Nineteenth Century Marine Art
by Alan Granby and Janice Hyland (Hudson Hills, 2009), p. 254, plate IV.17.
