"The Valley in Snow".

Signed lower left "Carl R. Krafft" flanking the artist's thumbprint. Titled in artist's hand verso. Retains original sales receipt from the artist to Mrs. K. Montague, the original owner, and a note on the artist's stationery "The painting you purchased from me is titled 'The Valley in Snow' [...] is original and painted by me. I have never made a duplicate of this canvas and never will. I consider [th]is one of my best works".
The following information was provided to us courtesy of Joel Dryer, Director of Illinois Historical Art Project.:"Exhibited at an annual exhibition by members of the Austin, Oak Park and River Forest Art League, a juried exhibit where only 1/3 of the entries submitted were accepted by the jury. The Marshall Field & Co. galleries hosted the show from Oct. 20 through Nov. 1, 1930. The work was later shown at an exhibit at the Chicago Woman's Club where it was sold on March 22, 1932 to Mrs. Montague of Austin - a wealthy section of west Chicago adjacent to Oak Park, IL."
Oil on canvas, 20" x 56". Framed 23" x 59".
Condition: Overall excellent condition: UV light reveals some small areas of paint restoration at the bottom edge to address damage frame rub, one tiny spot of paint loss on the extreme left side, otherwise no issues.
